Unlike most Atlantic storms that form off the coast of Africa, Hurricane Lenny formed in the western Caribbean Sea late in the 1999 season and quickly became known as “Wrong Way Lenny”. On November 17 Lenny passed just south of St. Croix as a Category 5, and left moderate damage in his wake. Although Lenny didn’t make landfall anywhere, torrential rains and flooding affected several islands near his path. Each ball on this piece signifies the number of categories the storm was.
